Happy New Circular 2021!

Hi ,

From all of us here in Circular Tayside we wish you a happy 2021! May all the challenges and difficulties 2020 brought remain in the past, and may we start this year refreshed and renewed.

As the new year enters, and we are all shifting gears from the holiday period to a new productive and exciting new year, Circular Tayside spent most of January focused on the Circular Tayside Charter and future partnerships to pave the way for the coming months.

The Charter is being piloted at the moment through a fantastic collaboration with Dundee University Student Placements department and some of our local organisations. If you would like to be amongst the first to sign up for the charter when it is launched, please contact us here!

On other news,  our partnership with Sustainable Kirriemuir, a great rural initiative helping the local community become more sustainable, is going strong– we are advising some of their local businesses on circularity and we are happy to have two of them on our Be Inspired page and Circular Tayside Map.

The first one is The Black Cat Soap House, a Kirriemuir-based cruelty-free organic soaps, skincare & haircare products company. They are already doing great work to reduce waste, and through our Circular Canvas session we identified more waste reduction opportunities.

The second business on our Be Inspired page is Forfar-based ComputerDen. ComputerDen are committed to social and environmental sustainability, and they are offering computer and electronics repair services to their clients- this increases product life-span and reduces WEE waste significantly. They also aim to provide second-hand electronics at reduced prices to those who need them Take a look at their amazing work here

On the Circular Tayside Ambassadors front, we have a new ambassador joining our team! We are very happy to have Hamish Murray, Projects Team Leader at Montrose Port Authority- Hamish has led many low-carbon projects and will offer great insight in our upcoming Circular Tayside Ambassadors meetings. Contact us to join the team and help  shape the Circular Tayside project!

So what is in the cards for February 2021?

February is going to be more event-intensive. We start the month with an “Low Carbon Opportunities to generate Business Growth” event delivered by MSIP and Scottish Enterprise  on the 9th of February. Speakers for the event include MSIP, SolarisKit, MEP Technologies Ltd, Zero Waste Scotland and Circular Tayside.

Our next event on the 10th of February is our “Circular Construction and the Perth West project” delivered by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce on the 10th of February. We will go over circular construction principles, the materials flow mapping undertaken by Perth and Kinross Council, we will hear from a circular company working in the construction sector and go over the support available from Zero Waste Scotland.

Our final event of the month is the “Circularity and Net Zero” event on the 24th of February, delivered by Dundee, Angus and Perth and Kinross Social Enterprise Networks.

During February we will also keep busy with the piloting of the Circular Tayside Charter and identifying more opportunities for partnerships.

If you would like to see other circular events or projects take place in Tayside, please get in touch! We are always looking for ways to improve our project!
