Scone Palace

Scone Palace

Scone Palace has an exciting and colourful history as one of Scotland’s most important stately homes. Fifteen hundred years ago it was the capital of the Picts. The Palace houses an outstanding collection of antiques, paintings and rare artifacts and the grounds are renowned throughout the world, making the stately home one of the most popular tourist attractions in both Perth and Scotland.

Scone Palace is undoubtedly very impressive, however it does much more than provide the local community and tourists with fantastic cultural and historic education. Scone Palace has gone a step further and has introduced several environmental sustainability measures.

They have a beautiful kitchen garden where they grow their own fruit and veg. The compost used there comes directly from their coffee shop creating a closed loop. They have installed a solar PV scheme which provides 45kw of power to the Palace, meeting most of their energy needs. All cardboard, paper, glass and plastic are recycled via Perth & Kinross Council. They have recently fitted thermostats to all radiators in the Palace – including the really old ones!! All pipes have recently been reinsulated to be more efficient and they are now fitting thermostatic regulators to our public toilet taps.

Scone Palace is a great example of some small alterations that can take place in your premises, that will have a great environmental impact in the long run! We are very proud to have Steve Brannigan in our Circular Tayside Ambassadors team!
